「神の愛がどれほど広く、どれほど高く、どれほど深いかを理解することができますように。さらに、あなたがたがキリストの無限の愛を知って、キリストの愛といのちに満たされますように」（エペソ３：１９）
オレゴン州の牧師の話を聞きました。彼は、州立の精神病棟の患者さんたちにカウンセリングをするように、派遣されました。任務のために到着したら、ほとんど服も身につけていないような重度な患者さんを収容する安全保護室へ案内されました。その部屋は排泄の悪臭でいっぱいで、彼らに話しかけようものなら、激しいうめき声やら、悲しげなうめきであったり、悪魔的な笑いが返ってきました。
そんな時に、部屋の真ん中に座って、有名な子どもの讃美歌である「イエス我愛す」を歌うように、聖霊が彼を促しました。彼は歌い始めました。
"Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. For the Bible tells me so."
初日は何も起こりませんでした。しかし彼は来る日も来る日も続けました。何週間も彼は同じメロディーを座って歌い続けました。歌うたびごとに確信は強まっていったのです。 "Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes. Jesus loves me! For the Bible tells me so!"
まもなくして患者さんたちが一人ひとりと起こされて、彼と一緒に歌い始めたのでした。最初の１か月で、重症患者.うちの36人が、重症患者用の病棟からセルフケア病棟へ移されました。１年も経たぬうちに、２人を除いて全員が退院することができたのです。
私たちがどんなチャレンジ、失敗、悪行に直面していようが、イエスの愛は決して変わることがありません。問題は「私はイエスが私を愛しているって、わかってるのだろうか？イエスがあなたを愛しているて、知ってますか？どれほどにイエスは私を愛してるのかわかっているだろうか？どれほどにイエスはあなたのことを愛しているかわかっていますか？どうやってイエスが私たちを愛してるってわかるの？聖書がそういっているから。とってもシンプルだろうけど、とってもパワフル！」
神さまは私たちにキリストの愛を知って欲しいと願っています。キリストの愛について知識として情報としてではなくて、キリストの愛を親密に体験して欲しいのです。精神病棟の患者さんたちが、「イエスが私を愛しています！」を単純に口に出した時に、彼らは、理解を越えた愛を体験していったのです。
あなたや私に向けられている神の愛は、まったく完全にイエスによるのです。彼の約束によるのです。彼の成し遂げられた御業によるのです。イエスの恵みによるのです。
自分自身を鏡に見るとき、 "Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so."「イエスは私のことを愛してくださっている。このことを知っているのは、聖書がそういっているから。」と言ってみませんか！
Jesus loves you so much
"And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."(Eph3:19)
I heard a story of a minister from Oregon who was assigned to provide counseling to patients in a state mental illness facility. When he arrived for the duty, he was sent to a padded cell with a large group of serious ill patients who were barely clothed. The stench of human excrement filled the room. When he tried to talk with them, they responded with groans , moans and demonic-like laughter.
Then the Holy Spirit prompted him to sit in the middle of the room and sing the famous children's song, Jesus Loves Me. He sang "Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. For the Bible tells me so."
Nothing happened the first day but he persisted. For weeks he would sit and sing the same melody, but with greater conviction each time. "Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes. Jesus loves me! For the Bible tells me so!" Soon the patients began singing with him one by one. By the first month, 36 of the severely ill patients were transferred from the high dependency ward to a self-care ward. Within a year, all but two were discharged from the facility.
No matter what challenges, failures and misdeeds you and I are facing, the love of Jesus remains constant. My question is "Do I know that Jesus loves me? Do you know that Jesus loves you? Do I know how much He loves me? Do you know how much Jesus loves you? How can we know? The Bible tells us so. So simple. yet so powerful.
God wants us to know the love of Christ. Not to know about the love of Christ, but truly experience the intimacy of His love. When the people in the mental facility simply spoke the words, "Jesus loves me", they experienced the love that passes all understanding.
His love for you and me is based utterly and completely on Jesus, on His promises, His finished work and His grace.
As you look in the mirror, say to yourself, "Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so."
